The duo that compose Timewellspent’s lush orchestral pop sounds—Casey Fundaro (vocals, guitars) and Christopher Moll (multi-instrumentalist)—have an affinity for the ’60s groups that wrote Baroque pop songs with gorgeous melodies and intricate arrangements utilizing Farfisa organ, Wurlitzer piano and the vibraphone.

The influence of artists like Burt Bacharach, the Zombies, the Beach Boys, the Beatles and even early Pink Floyd is apparent on the multi-layered tracks that make up Timewellspent’s debut. That Pernice Brothers bassist Thom Monahan mixed the album should come as a no surprise to those familiar with his resume; Monahan does a fine job of highlighting the warm and inviting sounds of the bands with whom he works.

While the music may be somewhat derivative at times, it’s much more engaging that the forgettable three-minute pieces of pop smear that pass for music on the radio today. Dreamy and atmospheric songs like “I Want to Tell You,” “I Know You” and “Probably” are tailor-made soundtracks for hot air balloon rides through puffy clouds. Close your eyes, put on your headphones, and enjoy. —Chip Midnight
